In this project, I was working with a wall that was quite tall (22-feet, to be exact) in a room that was already painted black.
My client's father had a painting he created in third grade on manila paper, inspired by a painting his grandmother had done that hung in his childhood home. She wanted to bring that design into this room.
To blend his childhood artwork into the room's decor, we matched the color of the manila paper and painted his artwork directly onto the wall.
We had to meticulously measure and graph out the design to create a replica that was exact as possible. Much of the artwork was hand-drawn, and we even used scaffolding to reach high points.
A memorable moment was painting with the hairless cat, which enjoyed perching on my shoulders—it added a fun element to the process.
We blended the colors from the background, creating a smoky, meaningful effect. The original artwork was a chalk drawing, so we aimed to replicate that smeared, smoky look in the paint.
The colors we chose complemented the client's bedroom furniture beautifully, creating a cohesive look. The window was covered with a shade, seamlessly integrating it into the room's design.
My client's father had signed his original painting, so we replicated his signature alongside mine, creating a meaningful connection between past and present.
With this completed mural, it is a third-generational piece that symbolizes the family's artistic legacy and beginnings.
The result is a stunning and deeply personal artwork that adds beauty and meaning to the space.
